In Which Allie Discusses Several Topics

I’ve yet another site to add to the collection: 365. It’s essentially a photoblog, but one I intend to post to every single day (hence the name 365). It actually has an ‘about’ section so you can read more about it there. I’ve kept up with it for a solid week so here’s to being able to carry on.

I’ve been rather slack about updating here because I’m still trying to work out some plans for this site and others. One I happen to be really stuck on a name for but that will work out in due time. It is slightly frustrating, however, to know that you want to do something but then something small (or maybe not so small) comes up and you become completely stuck. I often find myself rambling about things when I get stuck… like I am right now.

Unfortunately, my computer appears to be dead. We’re trying to get a replacement motherboard since that seems to be the problem, but we’re having a little bit of difficulty with the company even though it’s supposed to be under warranty. This happened about a week after my monitor decided that it just wasn’t going to work with its DVI cable anymore. Since my video card doesn’t have an analog port there was no way for it to work with my computer. I ended up switching monitors with Michael because he is able to use an analog cable. I suppose I should give his back now (and he’ll have dual monitors; *so jealous*) that my computer is out of commission. However, my sister found a good deal for me on a 22″ wide screen Samsung that I’ll be able to pick up this weekend when we go home. For now, though, I’m back to using my Toshiba laptop that got me through college. The poor thing has been used so much the lettering is wearing off a good portion of the keys.

At any rate, I have several very busy weeks coming up. This weekend I have a wedding to go to as well as my grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary. Then, next Thursday, we’ll be leaving that evening to go to my friend’s wedding in Michigan. Once the wedding is over we’ll be going to Wisconsin to visit Michael’s family for several days. I’m really looking forward to having some time off and being able to spend it with family. I’ll be sure to keep updating 365 with pictures, even if I don’t post here.

Life!

A few things have been completed for a few days now but I never took the time to update here. Partly because I’m in limbo concerning what I want to do with this site. For now, I shall carry on.

echodrift has a rather temporary something or other up for now. It basically links to this and Once. I want to make the entire site more lively and interactive but I’m still working out how to do that.

Now, for what Once is. Someone I know from way back when I was getting into domains and websites and all that fun stuff started talking about how things used to be, digging up different designs she’d done, and so on. It really got me to thinking about all of the screen shots that I had of past designs and at one time had intended to put together in an archive. Once I looked into it I realized that I would have nearly 50 different layouts stretching back to 2002. Regardless of the fact that some of those are downright hideous I’ve decided to put them all up. There are, indeed, 50 different layouts since I discovered a few that I had forgotten about, one of those being the last version of echodrift that I had worked on. I haven’t included the various wordpress templates I’ve used here because there doesn’t really seem to be a purpose.

On thing I am currently pursuing is digital camera research. I want to do more photography but my Olympus FE140 doesn’t quite do what I want it to. If I end up going with a larger camera it’ll be a good pocket size one to have, though. I’ll be sure to to keep updating about that as I go along.

Oh hey what’s this?

Hmm. Looks like I should dust this place off some. I had intended to get everything back up and running after the hacking incident back at the end of last year. Life, however, got pretty busy right around then. We made several trips home for the holidays and things started taking off at work. Now, for several reasons (0ne being the fact that I just renewed echodrift.com), I’m ready to work on this.

I uploaded a new default theme until I get one up. I had been working on one back in December but I’m pretty sure I don’t want to use it anymore. I have some plans for other parts of the website that I’ll be working on. Getting a new look here helps me feel like I’ve actually done something.

This post probably sounds like one big excuse but hey, I’m only human.

Hacked.

It seems that echodrift has been hacked. I’m not entirely sure how this happened but with Netrillium’s support I believe it’s taken care of.I’ve gone through most of the files and deleted the affected files (every single index.* file had been overwritten), but there may be more of them. I’ve been able to restore the files needed for and to function. However, I think it’s time to just start over with the rest of the site.

I’ll be working on things for the next little while and updating as I go.

Collective update.

This is going to be a little bit about everything. That’s what happens when you say nothing for a while.

On Sunday I asked Michael if the date was September 30th and he said yes, it was. I thought for a minute and he said “The 30th. Isn’t there something about that date?” And I go “Of course! It’s our 3 month wedding anniversary!” (Or, as he calls them, ‘lunaversaries’ because it’s measuring months, not years.) So happy 3rd lunaversary, Michael!

A while back I purchased Lirael and Abhorsen by Garth Nix at a used book store. Sadly I could not find Sabriel so I had to wait to read the series. This past Friday I finally bought Sabriel and began reading them. Even though they’re technically young adult books I really enjoyed them. (Eragon and Eldest are also young adult books but I enjoyed them as well.) The books mainly are about necromancers. I first saw that and went Hmm… how is this going to turn out. However, the story focuses on a particular group of necromancers called Abhorsen. It is their job to use necromancy to return things to Death that have been raised by evil necromancers or things that have managed to return on their own. They use a set of 7 bells in their work, each having their own sound and abilities. I wish more things about The Old Kingdom had been explained but still found the books fascinating. I look forward to rereading them sometime.

Now that I’ve finished those books I’m looking for more to read, though I have no idea what to look for next. My sister informed me that the 6th Runelords book has been released in hardback, so it will be a while before it’s in paperback. She also has a last book of a series she loaned to me a while back but hasn’t found it yet for me to read.

Of course, my reading time may soon be very limited as it is very likely that I now have a job and will be moving and starting that job in about a month. Which is all very exciting and a little bit intimidating. But very exciting!

Little Butterfly

Last week I went with my mom and sister to visit my mom’s sister. While there I managed to get a photo of a little butterfly.

You can tell from the flowers that it had been rather hot and dry for a while. Then I noticed that the butterfly was missing part of its wing. Poor little thing has had a rough life.

Hello there!

Allison posting here. I’ve finally found the time and motivation to set this blog up for me and my husband, Michael. I forgot how awkward first posts are. Anyway, there will be more posts to come after this, so I’ll leave you with a picture from our wedding, taken by one of his sisters.
